The candidate will work under the direction of a medical provider (physician, physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner).  The majority of the work will be assisting the provider by accompanying them at the bedside and documenting the patient encounter in the electronic medical record.  Ensures adherence to scribe policies and procedures.



  • Provides training, record review and feedback to new scribes
  • Helps maintain scribe staffing
  • Accompanies the provider to the bedside
  • Accurately and thoroughly documents the patient medical history, physical exam, and procedures
  • Completes transcription as requested
  • Performs tasks to improve provider efficiency during the course of a shift
  • Assists with registering patients and cleaning rooms as requested
  • Maintains confidentiality with all patient information according to HIPAA laws.
  • Oversees the operations of the transcription program
  • Supervises training for scribes
  • Ensures all training is complete and documented as per training policy
  • Oversees completion of competencies
  • Reports data for scribe program through monthly dashboards to the leadership team
  • Performs chart audits for documentation compliance
  • Reviews policies and competencies annually
  • Serves as a mentor for other scribes
  • Addresses scribe specific issues that arise
  • Leads quarterly scribe meetings
  • Ability to travel and train extensively throughout NYS

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Previous experience and success in a lead scribe position
  • At least 3 years prior scribe experience
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and general medical knowledge.
  • Excellent listening and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to apply written instructions and standardize work practices.
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Demonstrated ability to type at least 45 words per minute.
  • Strong communication skills, including grammatical, spelling and verbal.
  • Ability to work well independently evaluating and managing patients
  • Detail-oriented with proven ability to work effectively under conditions requiring accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Capable of working well on a team.
  • Friendly and customer service oriented.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is beneficial but not a requirement.



  • Will be required to complete scribe training program prior to first shift
